What is the Purpose of Title 1 Funding?

The Title I Program provides supplemental support and services needed to raise the academic achievement level of kindergarten through grade 12 students in basic and advanced skills. Title I schools implement one of two models for serving students – the targeted assistance program or a schoolwide program. Alfred B. Nobel Charter Middle School is currently operating under a schoolwide Title I program. Title I funds are allocated to schools based on poverty percentages on the annual Title I ranking. These percentages are determined by the number of low-income students, aged 5 to 17, enrolled on CBEDS day who qualify for free- or reduced-price meals or CalWORKs. Schools that rank at or above the established threshold may receive Title I resources. Nobel CMS’s ranking for the 2024-2025 school year was 52%.

How are Title 1 Funds Used?

How to use Title 1 funds rests with each school. Title 1 funds supplement the core curriculum through increased instructional activities, parental involvement, and staff professional development. The funding should assist schools in meeting the educational goals of low-achieving students. According to the U.S. Department of Education, Title 1 funds typically support supplemental instruction in reading and math. All funding decisions are made by the School Site Council.

Dear Nobel Parents,

Alfred B. Nobel Charter Middle School is operating as a Title I school for its eighth year.  The designation allows the school to receive federal funding to assist our underperforming students.  The allocation of the funds is closely overseen by our School Site Council (SSC) which is made up of parents, teachers, students, and school staff.  As a Title I school we have the responsibility to develop a Parent and Family Engagement Policy and School Compact each year and provide it to you for your review.  Please take a moment to read the policies that demonstrate our shared goals and commitment to student achievement.  We are looking forward to a very successful year with your support.
